Ministry of Sports asks Delhi HC for help in regaining recognition of NSF
“Responder No. 1/MYAS is applying immediately to obtain the consent of the Hon’ble Court in order to grant the temporary 54 annual NSF approvals for 2020 and to revoke/reinstate the suspension/submission of 3 NSFs The government recognizes… Therefore, in view of the special circumstances caused by COVID-19, the annual interim recognition between 2020 and September 30, 2020.
“Respectfully, the non-renewal of the NSF’s annual recognition form is not conducive to the overall development of sports, especially the overall development of athletes/athletes. Because all training and competitions have been shelved, they are currently discouraged because of COVID-19.”
The court stated earlier on June 24 that the ministry and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will, in accordance with an order passed on February 7th, “in advance inform the court while making “any decisions related to the NSF” “. Subsequently, the Ministry revoked the annual recognition provided to 54 NSFs in the second month of the next day.
IOA Chairman Narinder Batra stated that he hopes this matter can be resolved quickly, and this situation may be detrimental to India’s hope of branding at the Olympics.
“This may even lead to the cancellation of recognition. If any NSF told its International Federation that because the IOA did not give any permission, we can do nothing. The IOA will then say that we must obtain court approval like this. The Ministry may be subject to government intervention. We will be suspended from the restrictions on the independent work of sports institutions.
Batra said: “As Indian citizens, we must obey and respect the court’s order, and we will do so. If that means no medals were won at the Olympics, what should we do now.”
