Mumbai HC retains two FIRs for journalist Arnab Goswami; BJP’s Sambit Patra expresses “congratulations”

On Tuesday, June 30, the Mumbai High Court upheld the FIR ruling against Arnab Goswami, the Republican TV anchor and chief editor. The Mumbai Human Rights Commissioner gave him temporary relief.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra responded to this development and congratulated the editor-in-chief of Republic Television. “Congratulations #ArnabGoswami Now, the team congress can submit FIR in China,” he wrote in his tweet.

Goswami was previously the editor in chief of Times Now, an English news channel owned by Times Network. He resigned in November 2016 and launched his own news channel, Republic TV, on May 6 this year.Wikimedia Commons / Debastein

The Mumbai police filed two FIRs against Arnab Goswami on the grounds of suspected assembly of Palghar’s private criminal documents and migrant workers at Bandra train station.

Earlier on June 13, the Mumbai High Court protected Arnab Goswami from any coercive actions, and retained its criminal writ orders against Goswami in order to seek various remedies, including the withdrawal of his two FIRs.
